Does God Exist? Hillsong's Marty Sampson Searches for Answers
This week has been a trying week for former Hillsong worship leader and songwriter Marty Sampson. Earlier in the week, the "Elohim" writer admited his doubts saying, "I'm genuinely losing my faith, and it doesn't bother me." His confession has then invited public censure from Skillet's John Cooper and Billy Graham Association's CEO Franklin Graham.
This has not deter Sampson from searching for answers to questions such as God's existence. Sampson admits that he has been listening and studying the arguments from what he calls the "God squad." "The God squad. William Lane Craig, John Lennox, Ravi Zacharias, Mike Licona, Frank Turek. Not exhaustive by any stretch, but a wonderful bunch. I watch them endlessly. I listen and study their arguments. The teleological, ontological, cosmological, moral arguments and more... I appreciate their intelligence and their honest passion for what they believe. I am searching endlessly, and that search has not ended yet."
But his search has also been extended to those who doubt God's existence. By his own admission, Sampson feels that the atheist camp makes more sense. "Christopher Hitchens, Matt Dillahunty, Aron Ra, Richard Dawkins, John Loftus, Dan Barker. I have been listening to their arguments for the last six months among others, and I have to say - they make a lot of sense. They use their minds. Are they right? I'm not sure. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Love. Is it wrong to listen to the other side of the argument? Many would say yes. Tonight I say no. To everyone who reads this, regardless of what you think of me posting a chorus line of atheists, my reaction to you is a genuine one: I love you. The journey continues."
Sampson is even impressed by how Muslims showed love and forgiveness. "This is one of the most beautiful things you will see in your life. A Muslim man, forgiving a young man involved in his son's murder. It has taught me so much. I don't understand everything in life, and that's ok. I'm ok with that. You may not agree with me, and I may not agree with you, but I love you."
Let's continue to pray for Sampson as he searches for answers.
