Let's Continue to Pray for Connie Hopper of the Hoppers in Her Fight Against Cancer
Connie Hopper survived breast cancer 35 years ago, and now the disease has once again reared its ugly head in her life. The Hoppers are a Southern Gospel family ensemble which first began performing together in 1957. They appeared at the inauguration ceremony for Ronald Reagan in 1981. They won awards for Mixed Vocal Group at the Southern Gospel Music Awards in 1982 and 1983.
The group has appeared on the Gaither Homecoming tour frequently, and Claude and Dean Hopper are members of the board of directors of the North Carolina Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Mike Hopper has appeared on the television program Touched by an Angel. In 2007, the Hoppers signed to the shortly revived Canaan Record Label. Their release, "The Ride", was originally recorded independently, then re-released on the Canaan label. January 2009 brought the first recording under the Canaan umbrella titled, "North America, Live!". With distribution under the Spring Hill Music Group label, the Hoppers have released "Something's Happening" in August 2010.
On August 24, Connie Hopper released this personal statement:
Dear Friends,
I just wanted to drop a note of gratitude for your kindness and encouragement throughout the years. With respect to that unmatched support, I wish to respond to recent inquiries and concerns.
Simply put, during my annual mammogram, the doctor discovered a small malignant mass. Because of our family's past experience with this disease and knowing the emotional toll it can take, they asked that we postpone a few concerts as to be with me during the time of my tests. Nothin' like good family support.
Yes, plans of surgery are already in motion and all doctors are beyond optimistic! Oswald Chambers wrote, "Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work."
We greatly appreciate your understanding of any time off I may need to take, and sincerely covet your prayers.
Once more, I thank you.
Connie Hopper
She then posted this update a few days later:
Surely, I have had a team of prayer warriors that have reached the throne of God! All tests results have been favorable for my upcoming surgery tomorrow morning.
I thank each one of you for your powerful prayers and praise God for His unwavering faithfulness. I am doing well and working around the house as we prepare to travel to Brewton, Alabama for Saturday's concert.
Please tell all your friends and neighbors that The Hoppers' schedule will proceed as scheduled.
Once again, thanks for joining us in prayer and praise for my wonderful report. We all look forward to seeing you at a concert soon!
Blessings,
Connie Hopper
The latest update was posted on The Hoppers' Facebook page the morning of Tuesday, September 2, following her surgery:
Connie is out of surgery and in recovery. From all reports, it went well and looks clear according to doctors. Please continue to pray. We'll hear from pathology then about lymph nodes on Thursday. Thank you for your prayers. Keep them coming.
Please join the Homecoming family in prayer for Connie and her family during this time of recovery.
